Anyone hunt Tensas this year for thanksgiving? It has been three years since I have been. I took a few nice deer several years ago from Tensas. Last two years I went I only killed one doe. Is it getting better? I heard it was.

I think they had a total of 60 something deer killed on the first gun hunt Thanksgiving on Tensas and Big Lake combined.
Not many acorns this year. Lots of hunters.
Getting better??? Hell no.
I've hunted there since 1977. Numbers are low. If you do happen to kill something it will be healthy for now, but hogs are starting to get a foothold.
Bears have been absent compared to the last couple years. Not as many sightings.
I've spent a good 7 weeks hunting the area this year.
I've killed one hog and a doe with my bow. I've seen one shooter buck during daylight that was out of range of my bow.
If you can find browse you may have a chance to kill a doe. If they are rutting, you may get lucky and get a shot at a buck that's lost his mind.
Otherwise, the big boys there are nocturnal. All the hunters have educated them well. The only big deer taken are those jumped up by illegal driving and those chasing during the rut for the most part.

1st hunt was mostly non-productive. it was very dry, full moon one night i think. we had a group off 5 people that killed 3 deer in 2 days of hunting. 3 of us didnt see a single deer. numbers at check stations were very low, i think at the one we checked out at on friday, there had been 11 deer checked out for the entire day.

according to LDWF there were 130 something deer taken the first hunt (3days), 60 of them being bucks.
Correct that there is hardly any acorns, food is far and few between.
We had a group of 5 hunters and only "seen" 3 deer and killed 1 of them, a 193 lb 6 point.
December is the hunt to go on.
