Moving 4 school-age kids isn't worth coaching at your Alma Mater

Does Miles' family love Baton Rouge? This would be an important variable IMO.

the kids/family thing is a valid argument under most circumstances. except for coach's families. its simply part of gig. its the reason they make millions of dollars. elite football coaches are some of the most driven, selfish, and egotistical people on the planet. thats not an attack on the profession, or any specific coach. simply put, coaches like miles dont get to where they are right now by putting their family first.

to me, the internal fight miles is having is a built, big time program, LSU vs a massive rebuilding project close to his heart, UM. i guess it depends on his want to be the head guy at meeechigan

In many cases, people will take slightly less pay to go home. It's not unheard of in the business world.

I actually know tons of people that took less paying jobs to come back to Louisiana and be home again.

Les is going to make a lot of money if he goes to UM. Will it be the same as at LSU? Maybe not, but he will still be making $15 million+ likely/

Miles children love Baton Rouge, his 17 year old daughter is a top flight swimmer on the University Cubs Swim team,

Keeping in touch with friends is miles different than it was 20 years ago with Facebook & texting. Plus, they've got the money to fly anywhere they want as often as they want.

I have no idea how much family they have here - maybe they have more in Michigan.

And their surroundings will be comfortable no matter where they live for the rest of their (and their kids' kids' lives.)

With all due respect to the life of an army brat, I don't think the era and the situation are all that comparable.

And to think, no one offered your parents MILLIONS of dollars & a super-star lifestyle to do it & they did it anyway. The coaching profession, much like the military, is a job that everyone going into it-wife/husband, kids, parents, etc,-knows that the longer you are in it, the more likely it will be that you will have to uproot & move, more than once. I think it is a consideration in the process but like your parents, you do what is best for you & your families future. Cathy & the kids know that daddy is a big time college football coach & they know that with that comes a family's responsibility to always be willing to do what it takes to help daddy succeed, even switching schools, giving up your team & friends.
