XBox NAT type problem

Just got a buddy hooked on Xbox, his NAT type says strict but he is hooked up directly with an ethernet cord. Any help on how he gets it to open?

He needs to check to see if the router or modem he is using is compatible with Xbox. The website has it on there somewhere.

This is from a previous post of mine.
Portforward.com is the best place I have been to show you how to set it up.
Go to router list and pick your router and then select Xbox Live 360. It will show you step by step how to set up your specific router for portforwarding the 360.
It doesn't show you how to set up your xbox though.
Xbox 360 static IP setup
This link will show you that. Your gateway adress and your Primary DNS will be the same as your router IP. So if your router IP is 192.168.1.1 then it is the same for your gateway and Primary DNS. Likewise if your router IP is 192.168.0.1., then your Primary DNS and gateway will be 192.168.0.1.
Hope this helps.

I've tried everything under the sun to get mine switched to open. Sat on the phone with xbox for over an hour and they couldn't figure it out.

use the guide i just posted
look up your router model in the router list
and select xbox live 360 when it asks you what service you want to port forward
follow it (it should be fairly easy)
then use the 2nd link to set up your 360 to static IP
I dont want to just copy and past what i said in my last post, but if you follow those two links it should be easy
IF you have any specific questions just ask and I can try and help.

Get it fixed? I had a router that wasn't supported when XBL first went up, opening the NAT on it was a nightmare.
