Either A the camera took a picture of him and he didnt want you to know.
Or B he was scouting your property.
If he had a camera with him, he could have taken out your card, put it in his camera, deleted picture that was taken of him, got mixed up and put the wrong card back into your camera.
Regardless on private land it would seem to be an illegal search. his story would probably be A and he was in the discharge of his duties and made a mistake.

I think this theory makes the most sense. He probably panicked when he realized the camera caught him, and took it off the tree. Got mixed up flipping cards. Also he must not have been in uniform when he was seen, making him not there in an official capacity. A TRESPASSER.
My cousin chased some poachers over about 3-4 year period. They were putting on wet suits and riding 3 wheelers in on creek beds. Finally caught the guys and at least one was a deputy sheriff in a neighboring parish and ended up having to resign.
