Ness sucked
That little ball he shot with up + B nullified the other person's jump. Combine that with long distances and he was the best team mate when you needed to keep someone from getting back.
Also, his down + A when he was floating in the air, if you used it when someone was beneath you, they would be kicked downwards so quickly that there was no way for any character to get back.
Ness had more kill moves than any other character. You just had to know how to use them.
Also, this is about the 64 version. Melee and Brawl both blew chunks.

Don't get me wrong, I used Ness, just forgot which game. In one he sucked because his animations were too long, and in the other he was Overpowered like crazy (where I used him). That might have been 64. In Brawl they brought him in line with the rest.
