No you don't. Everyone with any real football sense knows who Dandy Don is. Not the goof ball that runs some cheap shite lsu recruiting site.

RIP DANDY DON!

I mean seriously, Alejandro, if this:

quote:

Rest in Peace Dandy Don (Don Meredith)

Is not clear enough to keep kneejerk fan from panic mode, then all I can say is:

Ain't that the truth.

Meredith was the original Dandy Don long before the Internet came into being.

Don Meredith is the original "Dandy Don." RIP, Dandy. You, Howard, and Frank were the best MNF crew ever!

Dandy Don quote on Walt Garrison:

"If it was 3rd and 4 and you gave the ball to Walt he'd get you 5. If it was 3rd and 20 and you gave the ball to Walt, he'd get you 5."

He was born and raised in Mount Vernon Texas, went to SMU and played for the Cowboys. Played all of his home games within a 100 mile radius of each other.

Amazing.

RIP...

Man, this is bringing up the childhood. I am part of that generation that grew up on only 3 channels (I remember when the station "signed off" with the Star Spangled Banner [and I think it was WBRZ that would open its broadcast day with a camera panning back and forth from a thermometer, to a barometer, to a hygrometer for a half hour before actual programming]).

I remember the "big three" doing MNF. Dandy Don (and I knew who the OP was talking about) was a perfect foil for Cosell, with Gifford essentially being the "balance" for the booth. Prayers for his family.

He was the original Dandy Don. Thought ABC was crazy with this theatrical stunt - football on a Monday night? It will never fly...

He was a really great guy and helped to balance the Cosell factor and kept the game real - created a story within a story. So spontaneous. I loved Dandy Don and despised Howard Cosell back then but have come to appreciate the unforgettable style of Cosell too ... " the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field!!". Those were the days...

I was going to correct you and credit the late John Facenda, but according to Wikipedia:

quote:

Probably one of the best-remembered (and most frequently-quoted) examples of Facenda's NFL Films narration is something he never actually said: "the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field" was a quote the sportscaster Chris Berman made up, mimicking Facenda's voice when he said it.

in year one of MNF -

Keith Jackson - "And the catch is made by Fair Hooker."

Dandy Don - "Fair hooker? I haven't met one yet!"

--

and another one of my favorite DD quotes:

"If IF'S and BUT'S were candies and nuts we'd all have a merry christmas."
