the Heat are not. They may be down the line, but they have been mediocre thus far.

I don't think you understand what the word mediocre means. The Heat have either blown everyone out or lost close games. Their point differential is the best in the NBA, and they're second in both offensive and defensive efficiency. They aren't as good as everyone thought they would be, but they're still one of the best teams in the NBA.

The most commonly use is as "of moderate quality." My use of the word fits that definition. They are 3rd out of 5 teams in their division. 9 teams have a better record. Again, mediocre.

You can argue all you want about point differential, but wins and losses are the true barometer.

"One of the best" is not really a qualified statement. It portends to be a quantitative argument, but is not. Sure, the Heat are "one of the best" 15 teams in the NBA. However, their outcome-based performance does not indicate that they are one of the best 5 teams in the NBA.

The only decent teams they have beaten are the Suns (6-5) and Orlando. The only impressive win is the Orlando wins. The other "blowouts" have come against mediocre to bad teams.
