We all know that the commentators have very certain stories that they stick to (for the most part). For example, Oregon and TCU both kept their rankings in the human polls and I firmly believe it's because the way that ESPN tells the story. (Oregon's great defense gets them by Cal versus Oregon's offense looking terrible versus Cal etc). I actually think if LSU had played and won that game like that, a lot of attention would have gone to the fact that 1/2 of Oregon's points came from a punt return... as a matter of fact thats the reason LSU got jumped in the polls for so many weeks, because these things were pointed out.

Ok, so ESPN clearly has an agenda... but my question is why?

It's easy for us to say they don't like the SEC, but WHY don't they like the SEC?
Why does Utah get ranked all the way up to #5 prior to playing TCU?
* Why does Utah go from unranked to 16 after beating Pitt during week 1?
Why does ESPN talk about this magical battle every week between numbers 3 and 4 (TCU and Boise State) moreso than they talk about Oregon and Auburn?
How does this benefit ESPN?
What is it about this story that attracts more viewers?

For everyone that still thinks the preseason polls mean nothing... anyone care to tell me what TCU and Boise was ranked after week 1? I mean, these are two teams, that Las Vegas Odds would most likely be against versus more than 10 teams each this year... but there they are, 3 and 4?

Anyone have any theories on ESPN's motive?

its dumb to think they have any kind of agenda against the SEC, considering they about $2 billion invested in the conference..

The people at ESPN are just that, people. And they have opinions that other people don't agree with.....

these are just thoughts...

No but I do find it interesting that Cal screws up and misses a go-ahead Field goal late in the game and Oregon escapes a close one.
But LSU wins on a Tenn gaff and we are Les and the team are a laughin stock.
I think it is because most of the talking heads talk up Oregon and don't want to be proven wrong and most think Les will screw up so they point out how lucky he is to win. Not till they beat 'Bama did anyou give LSU any credit. Even then it is still with a grain of salt.

They're playing to their veiwers. America loves an underdog and they're trying like hell to hype Boise and TCU. I understand where they're going with it.....just dont agree.

I don't think they have an agenda against the SEC either.

ESPN is a business and they are trying to get as much viewership as possible. There are a lot fans out there that don't have a real team affliation but love the underdogs. Building up TCU and Boise as underdogs creates interest.

Well, ESPN is based out of one of the most liberal minded states in the country. Maybe they don't think it is fair that these schools have had a fair shake in the matter and that......

Aw what the hell am I talking about, I got nothing!

I was discussing this today with someone who has a phd in rhetoric. Oh, by the way, thats my major as well... I could just post my 10 page paper on this when im done if that suffices for a "test." Then again, if you don't see that ESPN has an agenda, then you probably wouldn't make it through my first paragraph.

My problem is not with ESPN it is with Robert Smith. He has a strong dislike for LSU and it shows everytime he is on the air. Interesting to me that he was not on the show last night. May have had a prior commitment, but I would love to believe it is because he got replaced. I don't think that happened, but one can dream.

LSU is a very loyal but niche market. Almost no one outside of louisiana roots for the Tigers. Everyone loves the underdog. TCU, BYU, and Oregon really do appear as the underdog. They'd prefer the increased ratings by having one of them play a football dominant school.

No one wants a Boise/TSU NC game. But if Oregon loses and Boise gets in the whole nation outside of Auburn Al. will be tuned in pulling for Boise to pull off the "upset".

Are you serious??????????

Do you honestly equate Cal's missed field goal with LSU winning a game SOLELY because UT had 13 men on the field, caused by LSU's own 3-ring circus????????

Are you out of your mind??????????

Cause even if the FG had been made Oregon had 10 minutes to answer??????????

Maybe, just maybe, Oregon gets a break because they have an offense that can actually score points????????

Jesus frick..............

The SEC's a tough conference and LSU's played a tougher sked than Orgeon, but frick, one team looks like No. 1 and the other team has played Craig Krenzel ball all year....

frick

While I agree with you on this point, if they pimp Boise and TCU into the title game they are only hurting themselves. I am pretty sure the ABC/ESPN family televises the NC game. The drop in rating for that game would kill the stock holders.

Dude, are OUT OF YOUR MIND??????

ARE you that retarded????????

LSU is a huge national school, with a huge national draw, far more than BSU, TCU, Oregom or Auburn.

But sometimes people actually have to acknowledge that the other teams are undefeated and score points and ----

Style does count sometimes....

W-L does too....

...IS STUPID.

LSU was a laughing stock because it was involved in the same clock snafus that had happened only a few games ago and many times under MIles...AND

it won the game precisely because its own ineptitude caused the other team to have 13 men on the field...

That's not the same as the other team missing a field goal

This thread has AIDS

How about the fact that Oregon has only beaten two teams this year with winning records? Who's to say they aren't in the same boat as TCU and Boise, regardless of the PAC 10. Hell, Boise State kicked their asses last year. Oddly enough, ESPN doesn't EVER mention this.

LSU's own ineptitude caused the other team to make a mental mistake?

If you're going to talk about the Oregon game why don't you also mention the fact that Oregon only scored 1 touch down on offense? They had many breaks that game... it's not like Cal got breaks all game and kept them in it. It's more like the Oregon had breaks that kept them in it.
