Watching Aaron Murray yesterday made me realize just how bad JJ is. This guy is a just a redshirt freshman and made smart play after smart play. Instead of taking sacks that would lose yards he often had the presence of mind to get out of the tackle box and throw the ball away and keep his team from negative plays. This takes no skill at all and is something you should expect from a junior QB, but for some reason that light has yet to go off for JJ. Is that an indictment of the coaches or JJ?

Wow...Did any of you stop to think that JJ may not have the talent level of Murray. JJ wasnt the QB LSU thought it would be playing with this year. it just worked out that way. Considering the classless boos both QB's have endured this year, I'd say they are doing OK.
This is the SEC. If LSU played in ULM's conference they would be the Boise State of the south.
If you think it easy to pick or coach QB's that arent at the top talent level to be superstars in the SEC then your expectations are unrealistic.
As much as people want to blame coaching for these QB's play, I cant.
Maybe the gameplan sucks, but O-Line and D-line play with the players LSU has is something that the coaches can be blamed for if they are playing bad.
As for QB's, you cant make any HS QB an SEC Stud just by being a great coach.

it is the coaches fault to some extent, but at some point either by watching film or practicing plays over and over, jj should get it on his own eventually. I tend to think he still doesnt get it

Talent has nothing to do with it. There are many things a quarterback can do that take zero talent, knowing that you can't take a negative play is one of them.

Never said it was easy, but then again when you are school with the resources LSU has it shouldn't be too difficult. In the 5 years Miles has been he has yet to recruit a quarterback that has panned out.

Who did they think would be playing? JJ has looked like garbage from spring practice going forward, and it's been well documented. When I watched the spring game last year, I just hoped it was a blip on the radar and he had a bad day, but he doesn't appear to have improved a lick since that point.

JJ is actually a very good talent just like Lee, but both have gotten what seems to be very little coaching as far as being QBs.

My guess is that Crowton is trying, but just isn't good at developing QBs and his history has shown this.

As others have stated, he also wasn't expected to be a starter his freshman year. He's much like Rivers is in this year's recruiting class, a QB that needs a lot of polishing and coaching up. Without that, he's simply just struggled to develop and is having to learn on the fly.

I think JJ's biggest issue is that things get into his head and he starts panicking, like J Lee does, because for both, when they are on, they play great, but when things don't go right, they seem to crumble. Both these kids have just been in a horrible situation and the gameplans have either been over simplistic or too complicated. This has been a struggle for Crowton everywhere he's been.

In the end, both have great potential, but you have to realize too that Aaron Murray has a very good QB coach at UGA. That has been one of Les' biggest mistakes the past 3 seasons.

When JJ was recruited they thought RP would be playing. Then Lee.

Hmmmm. So it isn't the coaches fault for missing on recruiting, for not coaching and developing him properly, and it isn't any of the QB's fault either. But no doubt it's the classless fan booing at fault. That's some nice accountability.

And good God get over blaming RP. Any QB should be ready by their junior year. RP has nothing to do with now.

Cadello, you seem like a good guy, but do you actually hold any accountability to the coaches at all?

I mean, Crowton's history has proven he's horrible at developing QBs unless they've previously been great.

The only QB that Crowton's been successful with that was younger than a Junior when he first coached them was Tim Rattay that was an anomaly and started an entire year in JUCO and coached up there.

Outside of there, he's had a history of busts when developing QBs until he left and someone else took over.

The lack of development is squarely on Crowton's shoulders.

I am getting tired of everybody wearing both these kids out. Man I am telling you both these kids were recruited highly enough. It's coaching. Be careful what all you positigers/negatigers wish for in getting rid of both these top quality team players as far as attitude for Mettenberger. There is a reason Mettenberger is not in the SEC right now and kids like JJ and JLee are in the SEC. Stop frickin dogging these 2 players out and get behind them. They are all we've got. I put this on Crowton. Hopefully he can do a better job developing QBs. Crowton is gonna have his shot with the savior of LSU football next year in Mettenberger. Till then I support JJ and JLee.

I support them fully. They play for LSU. I agree that it is a coaching thing. OC/QB coach can't even improve a QB's mechanics, usually that is the first thing worked on.

From what I've heard it was a pretty contested fight for the starting spot while both were at UGA this past spring.

I think Mett has a ton of talent, but just like JJ and Lee is going to need some good coaching to be great.

Mike Bobo is a hell of a QB coach over at UGA.

Considering both QB's have developmental problems and haven't really improved mechanics in three years I am positive there are some coaching issues. The staff is either awful at evaluating or developing QB's for the SEC. Or both.

You just have to look at 2 things:

1) Crowton's history

2) Les' refusal to take last year's opportunity to higher a legit QB coach.
