This is one of the many stupid theories going around last year, but I find it very hard to believe LSU and TAF were worried about a $950k buyout for Crowton when there were supposedly boosters putting together over $10 million in a silly attempt to buyout Miles.
Seems they had enough money to up Chavis' contract to $700k a year, so I seriously doubt money was the issue.
What are your theories as to what really happened?
I think Miles was testing the waters for a new OC last winter, but for whatever reason didn't think he could find a good enough replacement (similar to the Pelini situation after the 2007 season), and so decided to make the move for Billy Gonzalez instead, hoping that would fix things.
A good offensive coordinator will not come here along as we have Miles. Too much meddling, Miles actually thinks he knows offense. Too much time spent on big cat drills instead of actually learning a offense.
I wonder what goes through Russell Shepherds head when he sees the sucess of Qb's like Denard Robinson, the Thomas kid at Oregon, Cam Newton, etc. Teams that actually have an offensive coordinator with smarts.
I don' know either. Why don't you ask him, I'm sure he has a social networking site. What I do find amusing is the percentage of our fan base who feel he should be a QB based upon his high school career. Do you remember the utter confusion, wasted time outs, delay of game penalties and horrible decisions of where to run the ball when he was in the wildcat formation last year? And people wonder why he is not running the wildcat this year.
IMHO pure confusion on his part (Shapard's), not ready to read a defense or know what to do when presented with a certain look and by the time the O went thru the "look at me" BS, time on play clock was running down. All I know it that it was usually utter confusion. Now, I do think we will see RS in the wildcat in the future, when ? Who knows.
Maybe not by simple minded LSU fans, but by the coaching community, he is well respected. Do you really think coaches of the quality of Bo Pelini, John Chavis, Ron Cooper, etc. would leave current employment to work for a man that was not respected in their profession? No one should be that dense.

The answer is yes. The problem, les recommended him for a raise and new contract just months prior. The powers that be said, if you wanted to fire him, why did you give him a raise? you want him fired, you pay his buy out, they were correct.

Yeah, it would tough to find someone better than Crowton! The Gonzales hire was sheer brilliance. Les has a great mind!
I'm not even going to debate football here...even though les has one of the best records in the entire ncaa since he has been at lsu...
what i am going to debate is minds. you are constantly ripping miles calling him stupid, etc...i read your posts.....i assure you this guy has lost more intelligence through older age than you ever had to begin with....he has a fricking economics degree from one of the best business schools in america.......that probably doesn't mean much to you...but to someone educated...it says a lot...whether you dislike the guy as a football coach is one thing..but to call him stupid.......says a lot about you.
