Can someone explain how the fricking number of yards AU gained on offense beat us in the game?

Points Allowed: 24
AU TOP/LSU TOP: 32:13/27:47

While the yardage was pretty awful, the one thing that shows up at the end of the game that ultimately determines the W or L is one statistic:

the final score.

Our offense had 3 magical opportunities, two with really good field position, the third with the turnover, and we squandered each one. No telling what happens if we put one in the endzone on one of those opportunities.

its all about points, they scored 24. We scored 17th against a horrible defense.

When determining the winner of a football game, they do not base this off of who has more rushing yards, they base it off the amount of points scored between the two teams.

Usually that means the TOP is drastically in the opponent's favor. It was not. We had plenty of opportunities to score on their defense.

They have a great offense and the two stats I pointed out are huge wins for the defense on the road IMO.

The game was determined based on the LSU offense/AU defense match up.

It is amazing to run for that many yards and only have a five minute TOP advantage, especially considering our terrible offense.

Yes but they had 4-5 big yardage runs. Take those runs out and they have 200-250 rushing yards.

Why would we take them away?

If all I would have known after the game was that AU had scored 24 points and our TOP was 27:47 I would have thought we won.

They ran the ball 52 times. They had a 70-yard run and a 49-yard run. So they basically had 320 yards or so on 50 carries. Still amazing that they only held a 5 minute TOP advantage.

I'm just saying that stat in particular is a bit inflated. Not taking away from their big runs or anything. It just goes to show what big runs can do stat wise.

I just broke it down, taking away those two long touchdown runs, and it's still an amazing stat.

Auburn also shot themselves in the foot with huge penalties that killed their drives. These things happen. Also Auburn really had 31 points they just chose to do the classy thing and take a knee at the end.

If you watch football at all you know that is not how the game is played. The game was over. AU scored 24 points.

LSU could have just as easily taken a different end game strategy which would have ended with the same score.

LSU punts. Gets the ball back with less than a minute and still loses. Big fricking deal. I don't understand why anyone would make the argument AU could have scored more as the game was strategically over.

My argument wasn't to take anything away from AU. It was just to state that the real problem was the LSU offense and not the defense. The LSU defense provided a winnable opportunity for the offense and didn't take advantage.
