JP Gators is another great sports bar to catch some games on Sunday.

great write-up BeeRye, agree with everything.

for those coming in from Jacksonville, cannot caution enough how bad those speed traps are through all those little towns (starke, waldo, etc). they are world famous.

Mark's is definitely the best steak in town (as previously mentioned), but be prepared to spend some money if you're gonna go there. i've been twice, and both times almost every guy in there was wearing a suit or at least a sports jacket.

unless you are young, wasted, or want to get wasted, i would probably avoid midtown altogether on a weekend like this upcoming weekend. every place will be slam-packed and moving around will be impossible. tables and bar space will go quickly and once packed, it's hard to get drinks. midtown can be a blast (bunch of SS), but i'd recommend going downtown on a weekend like this. rue bar, 8 seconds, sharab, skye, fat tuesday's, and rehab are some of my favorites.

if you're gonna be here the entire weekend, i'd definitely take the time to walk around campus. go down and walk lake alice before dusk and check out the bats feeding. the campus is beautiful (with brick buildings, huge oak trees, and ponds/lakes with gators everywhere). walk into the swamp (as it's open to the public) and tour the stadium before the game. also on the SW corner near gate 2 is a new trophy room with bcs, sec, and heisman trophies. definitely worth a look while touring the stadium....i believe it's called the "heavener complex"

since there's 45,000 UF students (and probably another 15,000-20,000 SFC students), there's a ton of quality places to eat in town. definitely try and sample some local places and local food whether it be bbq or latin food. davids bbq on 39th, and adam's ribs on 13th are both legit, along with the other previously mentioned on the first page. if anyone happens to be coming from south florida and is traveling up 27 to the turnpike, make sure and stop at Jack's BBQ in Minneola. one of my favorite places in the entire world. if you want some hispanic food, there's a couple good spots around gainesville. green plantains is a dominican spot with asian flavor and it's off 34th south near williston. there's a really good sandwich shop right next door also (hogan's subs). there's a cuban spot further north on 34th at the university intersection which is pretty good and las margaritas is always a great time. there's a couple decent spots in midtown if there is space. Swamp is a fratty restaurant, a latin spot upstairs (can't remember the name), and the copper monkey also upstairs has good beer and burgers. also in that vicinity off university is burrito brothers which is famous for their guac. if yall get homesick and want some cajun food, harry's downtown is alright. i've been told by some friends from N.O. that their food is a decent imitation of yalls local flavor. i don't think they are a chain restaurant, and i'm sure they are nothing compared to what yall have in N.O. i could go on all day recommending different places to eat. i'll stop for now, but if anyone needs any suggestions i'll gladly try and help. gainesville is really an awesome town and there's so much to do. hope everyone has a great time and has a safe trip.

oh, and one word of warning. not only do the cops here suck, but the traffic and parking situations also suck. leave early if you are driving anywhere, and watch where you park. the tow trucks will be out in full force.

It closed.

Also, in Midtown, 101 Cantina (a new place) is a lot of fun. Right across from campus on University and has a huge patio area in the back. We always go there for happy hour.

I'll be staying about 3 miles from the stadium. How is the cab situtation getting to/from downtown or midtown? Are there any cabs available after the game, or is it more likely that I'll have to wait a couple of hours?

Copper Monkey has pissed me off the two times I have gone there. I will never step foot in that place again
