Just be honest with him

i didnt start hunting until about 6 years ago and I was honest with my buddies about how i wanted to get into it and they were very cool about teaching me everything i needed to know.

if you just tell him you were full of shite he'll prolly treat it as a teaching experience and you'll both have a lot of fun.

Im still learning tricks of the trade from my friends and they really enjoy teaching me shite just as much as i enjoy learning and asking questions

im sure you and this guy can have a similar experience, especially if you think you would like deer hunting and think you can get into it in the future, this would be the best way to go.

Ok my 2 cents..

Come forward and tell the truth. If you dont hunt and you have been lying anyway, he already knows.

If you want to carry out the lie, just dont shoot anything. Tell him you didnt see anything, or you did and you had a misfire.

If you decide to shoot something, DO NOT TRACK it by yourself. Wait for help. Losing an injured animal is unacceptable.
