It wasn't a touchback until the ball was downed. Once LSU batted the ball back into the field of play without touching it, UNC could have picked the ball up and run with it. So, the referees did the right thing by throwing the bean bag into the endzone (as they both did) and waiting for the ball to be downed.

okay earlier i said "well maybe I'm wrong" after you posted this, but now I'm resending that, and Im back to, "the SEC refs have no idea what the rules are."

first of all, there's what Herbstriet said when this happened:

“It’s not about the players feet, it’s not about where he’s positioned, it has everything to do in college football with where is the football. Does it ever break the plane. You tell me. Does the ball break the plane? Only by two and a half yards.”

second of all, Brooks was standing in the end zone when he caught the ball, his entire foot, was in the end zone. Even if he was trying the "tap the ball back into play" thing, he went too far. but the official just stood there, because he has no idea what hes doing.

Ya know I could be absolutely wrong, but weren't the refs who did this game from the Big 10?

The crew on the field was from the SEC and the replay official was from the ACC.
