It's actually the exact opposite of what you said. LSU has to be able to run the ball to improve on offense. Our rushing game last season was one of the worst in the NCAA. Teams schemed to stop the passing game.
I believe it's exactly what happened last year. Opposing teams didn't respect our QB play, so they stack the line to stop the run, and if it was a pass play, they would simple put the pressure on JJ where he would take the sack. Granted, there were a few great offensive lines who could run regardless of a lack of a passing game, but in general, the passing game must present a threat to keep the defense honest.
If JJ does not improve on his reads and getting rid of the ball, you will see the defenses stacking the line play run first and rushing the QB if the play turns out to be a pass.

not quite accurate, IMO...Crowton's formations tended to give away run and pass (spread most of the time on passes, I and split on runs), opposing D's didn't have to do anything special to limit the effectiveness of either the run or the pass. In addition, the variety of throws made by JJ last year made it easier for the defense to play the passing game.
Personally I don't think the offense will be effective until he can pick a scheme and stick with it. Both QB's would benefit greatly from a play-action style and dump the 4 & 5 wide stuff.

Sorry, but you aren't correct.
This has kind of been a pet peeve of mine throughout the offseason. I've rewatched every game focusing on the defensive alignment. I took three games - Mississippi State, Auburn, and Arkansas - and broke them down play by play to see what type of defense they played against LSU. The results were very lopsided. Teams play pass protection with 7 or less in the box greater than 80% of the time.

I'm not sure I get you, never saw the movie, so I don't have any context for the quote.

Exactly.
FWIW I dont feel JJ is throwing anyone under the bus or paving the way for future failure. He is just saying that his line has made improvements that he feels good about. He understands his desire to not make mistakes last year acutally produced a far less than desireable outcome, and is willing risk more in the pursuit of victory this year. When everyone communicates and trusts each others ability to do their respective jobs, then each individual plays at a higher level.

And sticking feathers up your arse makes you a chicken right?
Facts show that teams were not "stacking the box"
They were shutting down the pass.

Exactly
No not "exactly"
No matter how many times people repeat "stacking the box", it's still not correct.
Facts back that up.

You dont mention that fact that we had two green qbs.
You assume that things wont be better this year, b/c thats what GC does.
I assume based on GC's record at previous programs and what he's done with our program so far showing more of the same. Ok say that he bucks his trend and has a good year. Most folks will say it's because of BG and not GC. I'm sorry with the talent that LSU had last year there is no reason for them to have had such putrid production. I don't care how green the QB's are. This year there's no excuse.

I havent run the numbers or have a link to support it but from what I saw last year many times the box was "stacked"
Maybe Im wrong and just blocking out the harsh reality of how outrageously bad our OL was if so...

I think he may not be afraid to step up in the pocket this year because T-bob won't be laying on his butt with a D tackle bearing down on him

When I was at LSU they were filming Everybody's All-American, so I watched it when it came out.
That movie made me realize that I would rather watch a football game than a football movie.
I haven't watched a football movie since.

Considering this will be Crowton's first year at LSU with a returning starting QB, I think there's a good chance he bucks the trend and has a good year.

No one had to stack the box against us because we couldnt run the ball. People think we couldnt run because the box was stacked, NOT TRUE. We just could not run, this allowed other teams to play pass D on most downs cause they could stop the run just fine from that alignment.

Wait what?? If he makes more mistakes this year than last year, we are totally screwed.
This kid just doesn't get it.

Just did
I think JJ's remarks were at throwing the ball downfield and praying a little more than just taking 12 steps back and laying down.

I think Bleeding Purple put it best:

It's no big deal, man.

Maybe, just maybe JJ is the one who keeps fricking it up?
Considering Matt Flynn took 25 sacks with an excellent offensive line, maybe it's not just JJ messing it up.
Watching Matt Flynn routinely back into sacks in '07 and now watching him step up in the pocket in the pros makes me think that maybe, just maybe, the quarterbacks coach might be f'ing it up.

retard ever stop and think that you're the one who doesn't get it?
he's saying that he's not afraid of making mistakes. that fear that he had last year is not going to stop him from trying to make plays this year.
i can't wait till we're 5-0 and all you fricktards are shouting praises.
