Legacy things are stupid. Plain and simple

I wouldn't call it stupid. But one thing that always struck me was that if a state school gave special treatment to people because they are say, a minority, it tends to be found unconsitutionall and people complain that it should be based strictly on merit. (not taking a position on that either way - that's more poli board material). But wouldn't this be subject to the same principal. I understand the difference constitutionally because its not a "suspect category" but wouldn't it be another instance of special treatment for something other than merit?

This is a large part of my point.

To the guy asking if I am in Louisiana? I am not. I am developing my career elsewhere. I made that choice, and while I hope to potentially move back, until then, I should be paying out of state tuition for my kids. That was a choice I made.

As for it bringing "outstanding kids" to LSU. Believe that your kids are "outstanding". If they were, I am sorry but despite my love for LSU, you should be sending your "outstanding" kids to programs that fit their needs and skills. As long as LSU continues to allow its student body to grow so large, it will not improve. Period.

If your kid is so "outstanding" they should be getting full scholarships OR some type of merit scholarship that didn't have something to do with Mommy or Daddy going to LSU.

Fact is if LSU wants to move into the top 50, they need to shrink their undergrad enrollment and more than double their graduate student enrollment. That is how you increase in these "rankings". PERIOD. No school with 4,000 grad students in a student body of 36,000 (less than ~12% of the entire student body) being graduate students is going to be in the top 50.
