Why did Frank Baum never admit that the plot was symbolic of the metalic-based monetary debates upon which the story is based?

DON'T RUIN MY CHILDHOOD!
IT is the bestest movie ever and is about a girl and her doggy and her wonderful imagination. And that's what I'm sticking to!

Why did he never admit that he based the plot upon the gold standard debate of the late nineteenth century? Its obvious he did. I'm just curious why he avoided admitting it.

Because it's only speculation.

Here ya go:

To the original question, maybe it made it more popular in discussion circles to leave it to specualtion?

How could that be? It would be impossible for all of the similarities to just be coincidence.

You could make the same argument about the symbolism in the final episode of The Sopranos, yet David Chase said that people were barking up the wrong tree for most of that stuff.

Bottom line is that we'll never know with any certainty. In any case, Baum claims that it's just a kid's story.

I'm not convinced that the "Lolly Pop Kids" were actual kids. I'm pretty sure Baum was hiding something.

Maybe my pic is before she got the ruby slippers? Yeah, that's it!

Seriously, if Baum had come out and said that it was more political in nature, the book may not have gained the popularity that it did. Sometimes not giving the straight answer leaves it more open for discussion and interpretation, which may have been the point.

Actually the Wizard of Oz is really a story about lesbian fantasy. Some academics believe that at least. No lie.
