Tried playing some COD on my computer.. Built a pretty good rig about a year ago with enough RAM to run the game easily..
only problem is my frame rate is garbage. I have a GeForce 9800GT which I am positive should be able to run COD4 without any issue. My FPS is dropping down as low as 60 though... Any tips?

From googling around:
Make sure everything in your case is connected properly.
Try /seta r_rendererPreference "Shader Model 2.0" in the console.

The RAM requirement is pretty low by current standards... < 1GB. May be a processor problem though.

A computer only runs as fast as its slowest part. It doesn't matter if you have 16GB of RAM if you're running a slower processor, shitty mobo, bad graphics card, etc. But I don't think 60FPS is bad for an online game, either...

60 isn't low especially if that is your minimum. I think that is about right for a 9800GT.

I used to play EQ and I had to look down at the ground the whole time because my FPS was so terrible. I'd shank a bitch for a minimum of 60FPS.

60 is pretty fricking awful in 2010./ (objectively speaking, not relative to his specs)
and yeah, i played MMOs on fricking 5 framerate too. it sucked

Not really. A game running at a consistent 60 fps is very smooth

Yes go read up on FPS and check out the max fps your eyes can see. Then get back at us.
