I've seen some articles where "sources at Texas" think the SEC has "low academic standards", and therefore would be a bad fit for Texas.

I know that Texas is well respected academically... mostly by themselves, but I admit that they are strong academically.

If Big 12 standards were so high, why did LSU lose several players to Big 12 schools because they did not have the grades, or proper courses to enroll. I know Phil Loadholt went to Oklahoma. A few have gone to Oklahoma State, and at least one to Nebraska last year. Was the Big 12 a bad fit as well? Or is all this talk just about taking a shot at the SEC?

I think they mean the general academic standards not the standards for athletes? They want to be comfortable with the other schools academics if not their own players cognitive abilities.

texas is not saying the Big XII academic standards are higher, they are saying that the standards at texas are higher. Harrumph. Basically, the arrogant little jerks are saying that they are better than you are and they would be in a recruiting mess because the other SEC schools could admit players that they can't.

Read the hypocrisy thread. Their sense of reality is probably distorted by marijuana, which can be bought in Californy, btw.

It is mostly about the overall academic level of the schools. Look up AAU.

Here's the academic rankings for the Big 12 and SEC from US News. Overall the Big 12 is arguably a little ahead, but it's not like it's that much of a difference. Note: some schools have the same numerical ranking, but that is how US News does it. LINK

you can make stats read however you want. you can get a quality education at any of those schools.

the academic angle is total p.r. and not worth the breath that is used.

AAU is a nice badge of honor, but it refers to a group of universities based on overall research and research grants (undergrad; PhD; post-doc etc.) and is not an indicator of what most are referring to when they are discussing academic standards between the conferences.

For Texas Fans/alums, the only time academics factor in to the equation is that if Texas were to join the Big 10, the university gets to be part of the CIC.

Like I said in another thread, the Texas president is a Cal alum and it has always been his fantasy to have Texas in a conference with Cal and Stanford. That is why Texas is going West.

Agree for the most part. Putting out the widely accepted stats to show that there really isn't that much of a difference between the conferences and for the most part the difference in quality of education between the schools is negligible.

If I understand correctly, the Pac 10 would be a step up in terms of the company that Texas keeps. I don't begrudge them that.

However, the SEC is not really a step down from the Big 12, and I think that was implied by some of the info leaked out by Texas. I'm starting to see why the Aggies can't stand them.

Being part of the CIC would be a great boon to any school. My Big 10 dislike aside the CIC (Big 10 + Chicago) is one of the premier research consortiums in the US. Either way if you go to the Pac 10 or Big 10 academics will be solid.

People say all kinds of things to try to justify this because it is odd to say the truth, that our President wants to go home.

the real reason is money. always is and always will be. you follow the money trail, you understand why universities, corporations, politicians, ect. do what they do.

that is why the b.s. they spew isn't worth the air you breathe.

Ok, so at 6:55 PM on a Saturday in the fall in Tiger Stadium, let me see a show of hands for everyone here that is concerned about what the academic ranking is of the school LSU is playing.
