Do any of you really think he could step in right now and beat out Jefferson?

No, Mitch Mustain is not the same QB he was in H.S. under the tutelage of Gus Malzahn. The kid could not beat out Aaron Corp...who was not that good at USC in any game he played.

Let's take it further, he and Corp have been in USC's system for a few years and neither one of them could not beat out a true freshmen. That alone ends your search to that proposed question.

You cannot compare the level of competition in the SEC and Pac 10...Jordan Jefferson has taken a lot of heat from many Tiger fans. When it is all said and done, the guy stats in the nations' toughest conference is still good without an offensive line and running game.

I rather Coach Miles go out on the limb and take his chances with Zac Lee, a true incoming freshmen, before considering a "ONCE HIGHLY TALENTED" QB from USC. Mustain needs to transfer to a smaller conference and work on his skills there, not at LSU.

Mustain couldnt win the QB job over Corp from USC and Corp never even played before.

People bashing Mustain and Corp for not being able to beat out Barkley are morons. Bash those two guys for not being good players but not cause they couldn't get beat a freshman.

Barkley was one of the most sought after QB recruits in recent history. He's been compared to the likes of a John Elway. He also came in at mid semester so he had plenty of time to compete.

Now do I want either Mustain or Corp (at Richmond but I'm just saying) over our current starter ? That answer is no.

But don't bash them cause Barkley beat em out. That dude is special. And won't play in a meaningful game again in his career lol.

He took their jobs before the season even started. Doesn't matter if the true freshman is John Elway himself. If he has already won the starting job before he takes a single snap in an actual game, there is something wrong with the incumbant QB's.

And FWIW, neither Corp nor Mustain took a meaningful snap before Barkley's arrival.

Mustain could probably "limp in" versus "step in" and make better decisions more consistently than Jefferson...End of story!

do you think Barkley would have beaten out a QB who thinks the goal of every passing play is to take a sack?

Mustain would not beat out Jefferson in a month of practice this fall. Keep in mind Mustain couldn't beat out Corp (a very young QB by comparison) who is pretty bad in his own right.

Mustain is still living off high school hype for the most part and him being "8-0 as a starter in the SEC" which tells nothing about his performances which were really him just handing it off to McFadden and Jones.

To someone begging a 16 yr old hi school jr to be to come here so u can wet your pants over him, anything would be dynamite.

Walk away from the board now and then and try to live your life off what you do and not off what 16 to 20 yr old boys are able to do.
