you are not a real US Soccer fan.

I'm tired of most self-proclaimed American soccer fans in the US bashing MLS for what it is not, instead of lauding it for what it has already accomplished.

The league is in its 15th season and already has attendance numbers comparable to the NBA and NHL. It levied better deals with ESPN and Fox and has created a very nice business model for long term growth/business success.

It seems though, that many Eurosnob American soccer fans want to bash MLS for not being the cotdamn English Premier League. Every new soccer fan is met with, "Whatever you do, don't watch MLS." That's a terrible precedent for new soccer fans in America who should have the want to attend live matches.

Fact: Almost every USMNT player on our current roster got their start in MLS. If it wasn't for the league, we would not be close to dark horse contenders.

Being a fan of US Soccer, is not just being a fan of the USMNT and Chelsea. It's being a fan of soccer in the United States and the highest level of soccer in the United States is MLS.

It was only because you seem to have a penchant for capitalizing many words.

and adammwilson I addressed the quality by saying that it isn't the EPL.

What about the level of play? It is what it is. It's a 2nd tier league that offers American players professional exposure, and is a main reason our player pool has increased.

Exactly how much MLS have you watched?

Absolutely agree. Snobbish U.S. soccer fans are the bane of my existence.

I still think the model for growth should have been like Japan's J-league, as in promoting amateur sides to professional, allowing to retain the tiered structure of other soccer leagues.

so why would people watch a 2nd tier league? Do you watch the Arena League? Do you watch the Canadian football league?

I've seen a few games. You guys know by now I barely watch soccer that isn't international.

Because it's OUR league. Why do any countries watch their domestic league? And being a 2nd tier league is not a bad thing. It's actually quite impressive considering how long it has been around.

So how can you judge it's quality vis-a-vis other leagues?

The Crew have played some excellent soccer lately and have only one loss to the undefeated LA Galaxy.

"Level of play" is a weak argument. I'm a bigger fan of most college sports in America than I am of the professional sport (football, baseball, basketball). I doubt that I'm the only one. The MLS is what it is and can be enjoyable if one allows it.

+1

People watch the Belgian League, Danish League, Swedish League, Polish League, Czech League, Swiss League, etc.

They are all 2nd tier leagues.

In comparison to the big four leagues, yes it is. Hell, the SPL isn't much better.

Do not denigrate my beloved leagues...you will be directed to Rangers in Eurocup final a couple years ago and Sparta Prague's constant presence in Champions League...
