Alabama Response

Gov. Riley's switchboard number 334-242-7100
Alabama's response has been less than impressive so far. With oil beginning to come ashore and more right off the coast, I thought some of you Bammers might like to voice your concerns. LINK

i think around here, we are known more as gumps......not sure why
just called and said we needed to be more like La and just bypass the feds and get the boats out there....doubt that will happen.

kinda hard to respond in fricking thunder storms.
with the shite out there 60 miles south of ft morgan be glad all bama has to worry about is a few tarballs.
this shite is getting picked up as soon as its ashore, bama beaches will never in their life have been this clean

Gov. Riley is a dumbass. They just showed him on the local news blaming other states for hoarding all of the booms needed to protect the coast of AL. That is a sorry arse excuse b/c you haven't heard from his arse during all of this until tar balls start popping up on the AL coast.
He has been exhausting all of his energy stopping the old folks from playing bingo!!!!
Gov. Riley couldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Bobby.

you dont know the half of it. this retard ignored all the experts as to how to deploy the boom and what areas to protect, instead he just put boom everywhere where it aint worth a shite. trust me i look at aerial recon daily and the boom being wasted in bama is a joke

I belive you. I was just at the Daphne Pier which is basically 1 mile south of I-10 and there is boom all over the place and the first thing I was thinking was that it seems to me that it would be better suited at this time to be deployed a litttle further south...

With all due respect, the reports are that the oil is only 7-10 miles south of Gulf Shores and Pensacola. My home is on Orange Beach so I sit between the two. Furthermore, I would love to believe that the beaches will be cleaned up quickly, but refer to your other posts about the competence of our governor. I agree that it is classless to blame other states about the lack of boom. Hell, I think the marshes need it worse than us. Still, he could have worked out the kinks with the coast guard concerning skimming before now, and declared an emergency a few weeks back. Don't show up to the party late and empty handed, it shows poor form....

the governor has nothing to do with the emergency respond teams on site cleaning the beaches - that is controlled by the mobile incident command post

Riley is a douche nozzle and always has been.
I've been wishing taint rot on that man since I was in college.

According to AL.com.. Riley is saying the Coast Guard is holding up efforts to skim the coast line.
quote:
MOBILE, Ala. -- Hundreds of private boats are ready to skim the water to help protect Alabama's coastline from oil, but they need U.S. Coast Guard approval to do so, Gov. Bob Riley said this afternoon.
Riley said his office "had had conversations with the Coast Guard, but so far authorization has not been granted."

Yep..and the topic of this discussion is "Alabama Response" and the HNIC has been worried about shutting down bingo halls and is now bitching b/c his state does not have what it needs... Where the oil is showing up is a diff. discussion.

And the local media is too dumb to ask questions. They take the first statement to a question and it's like. Oh, okay. As though there isn't a need for any other questions or explanations.

You guys should have heard the BS they said to me when I called the gov. office. If it wasn't so sad I would laugh about it. They told me that the gov. was not concerned about clean up because BP had vowed to clean it up and it should be capped today...

That shouldn't surpise you...kinda like the Capt of the Iraqi army in the news briefing as the US troops were invading the Iraq...can't post the pic but it's the first thing that comes to mind.
All of this is just a fricking sad situation.
