Why have they not thought about dropping a 72" pipe over the piece of riser and directing the oil upward to a ship which can then siphon or capture the leaking oil? Mind you I am not in the oil business nor do I have a clue about the mechanics of the operation but I am just curious and I appreciate your responses and patience with my stupid questions.

Because below that riser you see is a BOP as big a D9 dozer. It wouldn't work.

I think what they are doing now will get some results.
