I also read this somewhere. Amazing how BP always manages to leave some glimer of hope dangling out there. The only thing they've been consistent with is telling the public they just need to wait a little longer...the fix is always just around the corner.

How are they handling 15k lbs of pressure at the vessel on top, that seems like a real challenge. Is there a choke or something, which would make a seal at the bottom very difficult...

I think with a difficult operation like this, things have to be done in a stepwise fashion to see if things hold out. Rushing could raise the chance of errors and make things worse. No point in raising hopes unless you have confidence that things are secured.
These attempts remind me of Apollo 13.....
