Drilling Permits

I heard in the office today that they just pulled all new drilling permits. Talking to some friends working for other majors, it seems to be GOM wide, but I haven't seen anything posted about it.
Since you're a drilling engineer, and you'd have first hand knowledge about dealing with permits, is this accurate?
Are there any specifics that you could clear up?
Is it just new drills, or does it include ST's?
Is there a length of time set for the suspension of permits?
Really just wondering if you've heard anything or have any more info about it.

After our meeting with the MMS last week we can still get permits for sidetracks and completions but no new drills.

our understanding is no new drill permits.
however, we have heard about approved permits that were pulled before operations began. we also heard over the weekend of operations that just began w/ recently approved permits that were shut down as well. not operator or contractor specific, just seems like it had more to do w/ where you were in the well (just starting).

I think we've got one of each of those at the Lafayette office. My boss also told me that shell has two floaters sitting idle waiting on permits, with full POB. It's only a matter of time before people start being sent home if this keeps going like it is currently.

After a meeting with some guys associated with BHP yesterday they commented that you have to at least have intermediate casing set to continue with anything. This came up because they have some new wells coming up that may be shut down even though they had already gotten the permits.
