Well in the umpires defense LSU has had this problem all year. When pitchers run the count to 2-0 and 3-1 most of the time hitters are looking fastball. With a righty on the mound throwing 84 mph (Ott) and 87 mph (Bourgeious)fastballs down the middle

Actually, Bourgeious was hitting 90/91 accroding to the cox gun. But you're essentially right in the assertion that any pitcher constantly pitching from behind in the count will have a hard time getting people out consistently.

On another note, has anyone noticed that Blake Dean refuses hit the ball to left field anymore? It seems everytime I watch LSU this year, Dean is getting out on groundballs to the right side - a sure sign of someone trying to pull the ball. He used to demolish lefties because he would go with the pitch.
