Two of the best movies I have ever seen.
The story, cinematography, and music are all incredible.
You truly feel like you're in ancient China.

I started a thread on this a week or two ago and only got one response. But anyways...
Hard to imagine this being so. I liked the movies and could easily rewatch them. But two of the best ever? Not even close. It's not even that high up on my all time Japanese films.
The story just felt like a non fantasy LOTR Return of the King taking place in China. How all the characters had a strong bond/friendship. Not that I'm hating on that, but it was a clear rip imo. Another thing with the story that bothered me, was that no matter what, you knew in each battle they were going to use a gimmick to win. That got old to me. Lastly, the sword cutaway scenes were very corny and got old quick.
But yeah, it was a solid movie and had some good acting and a decent story. I watched it bc I saw that the star of The House of Flying Daggers was one of the leads. He was good as usual.

No accounting for personal taste I guess, huh?

Meant to put Chinese. Thought I did. As "LOTR in china" comment would imply. I'm on my phone so I don't feel like going back to edit.

I'm not mad you feel that way about them. I said that was hard to imagine. And I gave a debate to why I thought it wasn't.

You do realize that this movie was based off of stories that are 500+ years old and that there was an actual battle of redcliffs?
Anyways, if you ilked this movie you might also like Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon.

Yup. But doesn't change the fact that they copied the story telling aspect/character development/companionship from LOTR. Or that all of the other battles were probably made up other than the actual battle at Red Cliff.
But like I said, I liked the movie. Just was giving my complaints and trying to add some substance to a post, instead of just saing "it was good" or bashing the OP for thinking they were two of the greatest movies of all time.

I watched these a while back on youtube. Some of John Woo's best work IMO. I really liked the asian Kate Hudson chick.
