What dangers are present when they eventually drop this dome tmoro ?
It seems to me there may be other points which might be damaged, but not broken. (lack of better term)
Could this added pressure create other problems/leaks not present now ?

Simply put once they get this dome placed they'll still have to haul arse and get the relief well drilled ASAP. It is only a temp fix.

They could knock the riser off at the well head and that would allow an increased flow rate that may erode it completely. It could go from 5000 barrels a day to 100,000 or so. [ETA: another 0 for effect, wish there was ghost music playing]
I just made that up, but there are known unknowns and unkown unknowns in a process like this. The unknown unknowns are the ones that cause the pucker.
