So what is the identity that Les gives to our team? For my part, I'm not sure but everyone knows what Patterson is about at TCU, Saban, Meyer, etc.
What I mean by hodge-podge is a jumbled mixture. Whether Chavis is "one of the top DC's in the country for >15 years" or not is subject to debate.
But my point is does Chavis fit into Les's overarching vision? Consider the differences between Peilini (pressure) and Chavis (bend-don't break). Those are two different approaches to D and yet Les hired them both.

The identity has been lost (for some) in the last two years but the mischaractherizations of why and how are just laughable.
People that never accepted Les (mostly because they never got over Saban's exit) have decided they hate him and really don't deal with reality.
Prior to 08/09 Mile's identity was a ballsy coach that would take advantage of opportunites and rely on the playmakers he had.
Exit RP - Exit BoP, Unintended consequences = 08 sucked.
D problem fixed - Chavis one of the best DC's in CFB last 15 years NOT debatable.

(bend-don't break).
Complete misnomer, not his plan just what he had to deal with in his first year with a semi-ineffective Dline. This year he will command a dominating defense that will be near or at the top in the country - mark it down.
09 improved in most areas but the OLine was small and undermanned (fixxed now) and QB play was still questionable at times.
Now based on a single practice (called a spring game) people have decided that JJ can't tie his own cleats.
Maybe he will not be a heisman candidate but with a better line, a true running game and a year under his belt there is a pretty good chance he will be better.
If he is we win the NC, if he just doesn't get worse we are still a 10 win NYD or BCS Bowl Team.
It's ALL good - Geaux Tigers!!
