The College Football Cycle

I am beginning to think we are just in rotation of the College Football Cycle.
Teams work their way up and then finally cycle back to the near bottom.
Alabama just cycled back to the top after years of wondering around in mediocrity.
Now this cycle doesnt happen on its own but comes around just the same.
LSU has had an AMAZING run winning 2 BCS NC's but I do believe we are on the down side of the cycle and it will be some time before we cycle back up.
LSU will continue for the next two years with
8-4 or 7-5 seasons until Miles is fired.
Top tier talent in the state will start to look elsewhere to play in hopes of winnng a NC and playing on Sunday's, much like it did in the 80's.
LSU will hire Miles replacement and he will give a spark but by this point the shelf is no longer full with talent, so we linger around the middle of pack in the SEC West for a number of years until ticket sales, etc. go down to the point the A.D looks for another top tier coach and fires this one.
This will repeat until we finally land "The one" that starts to rebuild the beast that is LSU football.
How long does it take to cycle back up? That depends alot on the willingness of the fans to accept mediocrity.
Teams rise and teams fall...BUT its been a great ride and I am glad I was there to see it!!
The 80's were a tough time to be an LSU fan but the day will come again, when we cycle back to the top and I hope and pray I am alive to see it.

This is how it works, especially in the SEC

solid and logical post, IMO.
however long it takes to get back to the top I'll still there every season supporting our boys and donning the purple & gold.

I think you mean the 90's were a tough time.
Anyway, I have more faith in Miles than that. He just isn't as good as Urban or Nick. So we can only hope that Nick leaves, or that one year everything goes perfect and we get to another BCSNCG. It did once for Fulmer.

As I said before, that all depends on this...

Ole Miss fans for the most part are either ok with being where they are or are not willing to do what it takes to rise to the top. Like Bama did with hiring Saban. They wouldnt take no for an answer. Money didnt matter. They made up their mind that mediocrity was no longer acceptable.

This is what people forget, with the exception of the Arnsparger years LSU was at best mediocre, at worst, they sucked. (Especially during Curley's tenure)

I am 40 and we have sucked all my life except a year or two here and there and this last decade.
But for the most part, we have sucked and that is right were we are headed back too for some time.
Oh well. The run was fun!!

No I Think we we be a lot better this season!!!!
I knew Shepard and Peterson are beasts, but i was blown away by them, Michael Ford, Steven Ridley, Craig loston, & Dominique Allen!!
I think we are at least going to win 10 games, also Miles is aggressive and wants to Win.
Even with Miles I think we will do better this season. Lots of articles have been saying that Miles has become more aggressive and wants to win, and feels like hes been slacking a little. I like the old Miles like 2 years ago, even though I'm a Big Miles Fan!!
I think we will get our swag back and do a lot better than the last couple of seasons.
WE GEAUX MILES WIT MILES!!!!!!
LSU 4EVER

your perspective sucks...
as far as the cycle being dependent upon fans being willing to accept mediocrity, I would argue that panicking by fans and influential boosters is ultimately what leads to cycles of mediocrity. A fanbase becoming a bunch of spoiled brats helps the process along as well. Bama's problems are largely brought on by this. This is why Auburn and Bama never seem to be great at the same time, when one is doing well the other panics and starts doing stupid shite that is detrimental to the program.

Explain your Complete Fail on the 2009 season predictions.
I'll leave lots of space for the excuses.

What fail?
I said we would be lose 3 to 4 games and Bama would win the West.
THIS year we lose 4 or more. Finish 3rd or 4th in West depending on how well Newton does at Auburn.
Do I want this? No. But I do predict it.

My heart says no more than four but my gut says 5.

No. It was last year - 2009. The same year you got busted by Ebay for trying your collection of Poison & Warrant & Cinderella CDs.
