everyone in the world understands that we have underachieved the past two years. Our players have underachieved in the combine for the most part (in most people's opinions), apparently alabama's players realize it (100% false I'm sure), our players realize it, our fanbase realizes it, our coaching staff as well, and oh yes Les Miles does. Why is this so surprising, he may not sound smart when he's in front of the media, but I sure as hell know that he FULLY UNDERSTANDS the circumstances of the past two years, and what kind of pressure he's under. Jokes far aside, he knows football, he knows what our problems are, and I'm sure he and the coaching staff have a great plan in action to fix it. Like I said everyone knows we've underachieved even our beloved ESPN, so instead of bitching about it every single effing day, let's just understand ourselves that there are paid professionals right now working their asses of this whole spring, the whole offseason, and ever since the dreadful loss to Penn State, to fix the problems. Everyone just chill the hell out, and enjoy baseball while it's here

how many times can "you people" , whatever that means I didn't know I was in a category, say that the problem is the coaching staff, and insist that cannot be fixed. Obviously a coach can fix player's problems as well as their own. Optimistically speaking, Crowton and Stud could be becoming more vocal during practices, watching more film, spending more time one on one with certain players discussing their issues they need to fix and how to fix them, just to name a few. Just like I said earlier, they could be bettering themselves as well as the team, bashing the coaching staff every single day is not making anything better ,or anyone feel better.

Miles and Co. can turn things around. No doubt. I don't hate on the people who lack faith however. But we will see, its all on Miles. Hope he gets rid of all the demons and LSU can contend for the SEC west again. Its all on him.

We have not under achieved, we won 8 and 9 games with inferior talent to Bama and Florida. All schools have down years and down talent, mainly we had inexperience at QB the last two years.
That will change this year, but in my opinion its been strictly talent level not coaching.
If you're rational, key word, look how many teams, like USC, Olkahoma, that had worst records.
Miles will prove after this year what BS is on this board, unfortunately he will probably pack up and move to Michigan where he is wanted.

I don't see how you can say you had "inferior talent" when you have been in the top 5 (1st one year) in recruiting the last 3 years same as Bama and UF. Your logic is absurd.

LSU, Bama, and Florida have equal talent. The difference is that Bama and Florid have better coaching. I don't hate Miles, I seriously think Miles is a better coach then what he gets credit for.... My biggest gripe is that he is keeping Crowton. I have zero faith in Crowton and I really believe Crowton will be the achilles heel in 2010..... My biggest hope is that Miles starts giving Gonzales more responsibility with the offense.

Qb play has been the main problem the last two years. Not poor coaching. This is obvious. Even the ole miss game was Jefferson. An experienced qb knows what to do during that situation and is not looking to the sideline for help as time slips away. Not saying miles is perfect by no means, but give the man some credit.

Certain positions, what certain position. Jordan Jefferson was not the only 1st year starting QB in the nation. Besides he had a whole year in 2008 to learn the offense. He sure looked like an all american that year in the bowl game. Everybody was praising him after that game saying he should have been the starter all year. Can't have it both ways.

Umm...calling a pass play while in FG range besides running the ball and then waiting 17 seconds to call a timeout had nothing to do with Jefferson. Why not call a run play to set up the FG? The Ole Miss game was all on the coaches - so was Penn St.

Miles was confused. Therefore Jefferson was confused. Miles is the one who called for spike anyway. How can you say Ole Miss was all on Jefferson?

I agree with most of the OP.
Miles may not SEEM to be on top of things, and doesn't SEEM to have the best interviewing skills; but somehow I think it's a different story when he's in the locker room and on the sidelines! He does NOT talk there like he does to the media.
Another plus for Miles is that he has surrounded himself with some excellent coaches (including Stud and Crowton IMO.) And the three new ones -
Wilson, Ensminger and Gonzales, are all excellent recruiters (as is Miles.)
It should also be mentioned that Miles has now coached 66 games at LSU, and he has been in or had a chance to win all 66, except FIVE !!!!! :
Georgia in '05, Fla in '06 (maybe), and Fla, UGA, and Ole Miss in '08 (after losing Perrilloux and playing a true freshman QB)
We were competitive in all 4 of the losses last year, 2 of which were top 5 teams!
The Ole Miss game was not Miles fault, IMO.
That last play happened too fast and a split second decision would have had to have been made for the """"ONLY"""" option available - to throw a pass in the end zone.
No matter what anyone says, the FG attempt was an impossibility because the referee starts the clock on his arm signal when all the players get lined up - there would have been no time to get the FG unit onto the field - it was a physical impossibility.
Also, in spite of what many people erroneously think, Miles was not yelling to Jefferson to "spike" the ball ! - he was yelling at the refs and pointing to the ground because the receiver was down who caught the ball (an Ole Miss player jumped up with it as if he had stolen it.)
Just my two cents....

I didn't want to bring it up but since you did. Bama had a 1st year starter at QB. If I'm not mistaken they had a pretty good year.
And no I know he wasn't great but he got the job done by having GOOD COACHING.

Do you think Flynn would have not known what to do with the clock running down. There is not always time for coaches to think of every scenario possible. There are parts of games where aplayers instincts have to take over and Jefferson = confused.
