Never knew The Wire was based on a true story.
The Avon Barksdale Story isbeing released on DVD 3/10. I DL'd a copy this morning and will try and watch it in the next few days. Heres a youtube trailer

The Wire is inspired by a lot of stories Simon remembered when he worked alongside the Baltimore police.
It's looks kinda cheesy but I'll have to check it out.

that looks awful. the trailer was barely tolerable with the stupid looking re-enactments. I saw some B-movie on Netflix streaming that tried to capitalize on the Wire's popularity too. It had the actor who played Avon as well and the guy who played Bodie in it. It was another awful knockoff of the show. It's called 4 Life: 4 Life

Funny. He probably only became Nathan "Avon" Barksdale after The Wire came out. The only character I've ever seen Simon come out and say was directly based on a real person was Omar.
