I thought everyone knew that the problems with our defensive line not materializing fell at the feet of Ex-Coach Lane. He was a recruiter and nothing more. That has been the information from players and coaches that has materialized over the past year. He was a terrible defensive line coach, as evidenced by Wood's obvious improvement in only one year under Coach Haley. We should continue to see improvement now in our defensive front.

Woods has said that if he had had four years under Haley, he knows he would have been a much better defensive tackle than he was at the end of this season. He is too good of a person and will not say anything bad about Lane, but the presumption from what he said is that he learned nothing from his previous line coach that helped him to improve and prepare for the NFL. Note that Francois failed to improve from his Soph to his Junior year under Lane as well.

Injuries did hamper Alexanders play (severe knee injury) and Woods did not reach his potential. However, from all accounts some of the blame for the D line's failures to improve can be traced to Lane's tenure as d line coach.

Really glad we got Haley. He's not too bad at recruiting either.
