Porter was part of the Problem

According to a couple of HS coaches I know that work LSU summer camps, Coach Porter moving on will help. They said that he was the hardest person to get along with on the staff and that most of the staff and players didn't get along with him. He never saw eye to eye with Crowton on running game issues so that caused some problems. The only running back he favored was CS and KW and SR couldn't stand him. This is one of the reasons KW didn't see much playing time.
I think the offensive staff will be more together this year on things.

Didn't Williams say that none of his coaching ever came from Coach Porter and more so from Coach Miles?

It's no secret he's hard to get along with and the RBs as a whole didn't really 'like' him. But negatigers far and wide have said over and over you don't have to be liked to be a good coach.
Keiland didn't practice like Porter wanted him to practice, and that's the main reason why he didn't play - whether we would have thought it was a good practice or not is not the point.
His backs averaged good yardage, blocked well, caught well, and didn't fumble. The main drawback was his rotation of backs - which was curious at the most inopportune times and which prevented the backs and the offense (at times) to no be in rhythm.

I think it has been substantiated that Porter had final say on personnel decision at RB and that Crowton could not overrule him.
That is a curious set up where the RB coach can overrule the OC IMHO and that's the head man's decision.
And Porter's RB rotation was often head-scratching, the decision not to play Scott in the second half at Kentucky in 2007 of course being the most glaring example.
If Miles ditches that unusual philosiphy that would be a step in the right direction.

It's easy to pin the problem on the person after they've left. If Porter and Crowton were'nt communicating, then it's Miles' fault. It his job to make them work together.

Porter was one of the best recruiters in the country, so it is a fact that he had to have some relationship with the athletes.
There are so many assumptions and guesses in this thread that it adds nothing to what the problem is, if there is one.

We have had a thousand yard rusher the last two years. This year we replace a 360 lb OG with a 275 lb OG and the lack of production in the running game is Porter's fault? There was an article earlier in the year where Scott and an OL talk about the changes in the running game this year. There were changes in the types of plays and the blocking schemes. Scott said he preferred running out of the I and thought we would get back to that.
