Look at the way Saban (not that there isnt other, he was just the first one I thought of) acted after the penalty for too many men on the field.

As long as he wins, we'll be told that that's exactly what we need. People overestimate the impact of coaching, especially of coaching "style", on games. The one concern I have with regard to coaching is preparation. At this point, we don't seem to have the details down pat, hence the illegal formation penalties. You do wonder how much emphasis Miles puts on it sometimes.

The interesting thing about Saban will be of course his staying ability. If he stays at Bama beyond his usual 5 years, will be he able to sustain the kind of hard-edged relentless tempo he requires and demands. Its great for whipping a program into shape, but after a while I would assume that you need some release, hence the high turnover rate among his assistants. For whats it worth, I understand that by the time he left LSU, the well of good-will among some folks in the administration had begun to run dry with all the tantrums and high demands.

In the end, LSU may (finally) get the best of both worlds - the program Saban built, maintained by Miles will (at least for the foreseeable future) be a very attractive place, both for players and coaches. LSU isn't going anywhere. And Flordia and Bama will be where LSU is now this year at some point, perhaps next year. We are nowhere near the Ole Misses or South Carolina's of the league.
