ROLL TIDE?

This game of inches and key plays by key players, ultimately turned on disability of Jefferson, Scott and Peterson, whose was further disabled by human error and officiating ignorance.

Peterson with grace of a gazelle and feel which would make Jerry Rice proud gained complete control of the ball at the instant it touched his fingers with two feet meticulouly in bounds.

Review and decision by seemingly well intentioned officials confounded everyone and even 15% of the Alabama Fans (IQ's over, oh never mind), as our head official unwaveringly declared, "insufficient evidence", ostensibly to overturn a "bad" call. Sadly, this brilliant display of athleticism was negated.

While video evidence is and was there for any reasonable trier of fact to reach the undeniable truth; LSU ball, what baffles is the inability of officials at our highest level of collegiate athletics in failing to use the best and most fundamental evidence; physical evidence at the scene of the crime.

Had anyone gone to the spot where Chad so vehemently pointed, available evidence suggests there would have been found two diagonal and closely parallel lines, the left toe dragging about six inches inside the field of play and the right, closer and deeper; both ending inside the field of play.

It is a game and as such we should not take the result too seriously. The value is in the quality of the journey. Anytime we are exposed to our own ignorance at times and in events which have importance in our lives, we are all better served when we get the result right.

Would LSU have won; who knows? Were they denied a legitimate opportunity at the hands of human ignorance; yes. We can always do better.

The rest is history; effort of our embattled Tigers heroic and we toast our glasses and tip our hats to Miles and company for a great job. We are banged up, but our swagger has returned as leaders are emerging. Jefferson could become one of the greats; incredible talent is emerging from within this fine young man.

And we can ask ourselves; how many headsets does Nick Saban go through in a season? Is this the character we want in our leaders? Steady as she goes. All is well in Tiger Land.

And so it goes. After all, this is only a game and there will be many more. As always, and today in particular, I am happy to be a Tiger.

Always the best, Rob Lowther
