I did some searching on TD and did not find a whole lot on this. I'm making my first trip to Tiger Stadium this Saturday for the Auburn game and bringing my family, wife and two small kids (5 and 7). I was looking for any thoughtful advice on how we should approach the day. Specifically:

1. What time to get there (keeping in mind two small kids)
2. Where to park the car
3. Any "make sure you do..." advice

Our tickets are in the upper section, 641.

Thanks!

Where are you staying? New Orleans or Baton Rouge?

I would make sure I :

visited mike the tiger's cage
watched the band march down the hill
(watch from the hill in front of the journalism building or the ramp in front of the assembly center to be able to see the band and golden girls in clear view...)
visit the new LSUsportshop by mike the tiger's habitat.
look at all the "tiger" bricks scattered around the habitat
I would arrive around noon or 1 o'clock on campus.

We'll be driving in from Poplarville, MS on gameday and heading back there after the game.

I would say before 10 a.m. Even if that seems a little early for the little ones, you can take them play games and eat in the union before going around campus.

Either at Kirby Smith if you want to be able to leave a little quicker, or maybe around coates hall if you want to be close to everything.

Band coming down the hill in the afternoon, take the kids to see mike's cage, tailgate party outside the pmac if its just your family, ice chest with wheels if your bringing one, and hang around the indian mounds. Kids like playing on them and there are some cool groups of tailgaters by there.

And let your kids see if they can cut through the band on their way back to the band hall. Just start on one side and let them see if they can run through. It's another gameday tradition.

Getting there after noon will present parking issues. In any event, the kids are going to be beyond tired, and, if memory serves, getting exponentially cranky as they get tireder. I would plan on returning to the car at about 2:30 or 3:00 to let them take a nap for an hour. It will be boring for you and the wife, but will pay dividends at 8PM when it's only halftime.

The FIRST think you should know is that you CAN'T take backpacks or umbrellas into the stadium! You can take other bags and purses, but they are checked at security.

Unfortunately, if you get to campus too late, you won't even be able to park on campus - they block off all the entrances and you have to end up parking miles away off of Highland Road and pay to park in area residents and students' private driveways and parking lots. Not good for kids.

I'm not sure what the cutoff time is for when they block campus entrances, but we usually get to campus between 10 and 11 a.m. (Make sure the little ones get a few pitstops in :)

A central location that I like to park is the area around the rear Herget Hall parking lot, or right near there at the Student Rec Center parking lot. This area is not too far from the LSU Union. It is a litte bit of a walk, but it is very convenient. The Union has everything - bathrooms, lounging and rest areas, a HUGE gift shop and book store, cafeteria style, fast food and healthy food choices, TV's to watch other games, and a fantastic new area on the ground floor near McDonald's with many sofas, tables, big screen TV's, and a game room with pool tables, etc.
The front of the Union also faces Tailgate City -the Parade Grounds.
As far as what to see, I would walk along the Union/Parade Ground sidewalks to the Memorial Tower, then through the Quadrangle behind it.

When you emerge from the Quad between Allen and Peabody, to your left will be Lockett Hall and the right will be the Hill Memorial Library. Straight ahead will be the Journalism Building and the top of Victory Hill where Mike's cage, the players, and finally the Band start their march down past the stadium. To the right of the Journalism Bldg is the Cox Academic Center for Student Athletes.

A MUST for the kids are the Indian Mounds, situated between Lockett, Hill Memorial, Cox Academic Center, and the Journalism Bldg. Kids can have fun and run and/or slide down the Mounds.

The players and Mike should march down the hill around 3 or 3:30, and the Band should march down around 4:15-4:30. You DON'T want to miss that.

If you are a member of TAF or know someone who is, you can then go the pregame party inside the Maravich Assembly Center where there is catered food, fast food, games on large screen TV, and a performance by the Band.

Or, you can go visit Mike's Habitat and the Tiger Gift Shop right next door to that. (and of course a tremendous gift shop and book store in the Union.)
Since bathroom lines are generally long, I would try to always be near some. There are port-o-lets near the PMAC, and there are bathrooms in the Stadium parking lot going toward Nicholson.

There are bathrooms in the Union and in the PMAC if you go the TAF pregame party.

(I have a membership card and can get ya'll in if you would like to go :)

Warning: there will be a huge crush of people on the street between Tiger Stadium and the PMAC (where the Band marches down) and betwen PMAC and the stadium after the band enters the PMAC. I would suggest taking your time, HOLDING HANDS, and getting into the stadium as early after the Band marches down as you can. as Security checks bags beforehand.
