Bobby Hebert on LSU

Listening to Bobby Hebert comment on LSU's offense on radio. He said what I've been thinking-that LSU's offense doesn't do anything to confuse the defense. That if the linebackers are loading up for the run, LSU should use play action, or drag a tight end across the field behind them, etc.
Les blames the problem on execution. But when the other team has equally talented athletes, you're not going to out-execute them consistently if their defense doesn't have to be concerned with how a play might develop differently then they expect. Example-the triple option has 2 other parts that we never use-a pass or a hand off to a back other than the pitch back. It helps keep the safeties and cornerbacks honest. I've never seen us do either. Anyhow, just my opinion FWIW.

I think Bobby is dead-on! If you're not talented enough to overpower the defense, pretty much your only option is to try to confuse them. The trick is to not confuse yourself and that may be part of what Crowton and Miles are concerned with an inexperienced QB. I say let er rip!

And they didn't have anything to lose by letting her rip Saturday, considering there was no offense in the second half.

thats got to be awkward, to be a highly profile guy whose son is struggling right now

Maybe he could tell us why his son can't block

Yep. Everybody who knows anything about offense knows this, but still, we keep doing other bullshite instead. It's truly baffling.

Exactly. People complained a lot about the center and guards, but really, they're not doing a terrible job on the run. If you look at our running stats in situations where it's not obvious that we're just going to run up the middle, it's not that bad. Even the much-maligned option play is not as bad as people make it out to be.
Having our RBs rush 18 times for 67 yards against UF's defense is actually not too bad, considering that we ran three times from 1st and goal at the 10, and a couple of times on situations like 3rd and 1 and stuff.
The problem is that nobody respects our deep threat, and that whenever LSU passes, the entire play (including the receiver LSU wants to throw to) is transparent as soon as the ball is snapped.

Please, no more of this.

we do use play action, but only to throw 35 yard crossing patterns, which by the time the receiver breaks open, JJ has already been sacked and the refs are spotting the ball for the next play

I think that the problems run blocking are more due to play calling than the linemen. When everyone knows it's a run play (which was Hebert's and my point), the defense has too many people at the point of attack for the linemren to block.

It's hard to disagree with you on that. Everytime tehy run the option, I start to feel ill.

as much as i liked our O in '07, it seems to me that Crowton just doesn't design the right plays for THIS offense. i feel stupid buying into the "wizard" moniker.

This is just not true. On true play action plays, LSU's passing game has been pretty good this year. The problem is that LSU only does it about once or twice a game, and even after a successful long play, never go to it again. Instead, the Tigers prefer to pass out of bullshite formations like the "pistol."

use our tight end like they (FL) were using Hernandez against us!!!
