I have always though Manny to be one of the most dominant hitters in the postseason despite being statistically skewed with his clutch.

One thing that impresses me with those stats is the fact that they played without a Divisional Series and without the Wild Card.

Those were ALL World Series at-bats

That's impressive. But lots of people tend to overlook stats past the 70's just because baseball was such a different game than it is now.

Mariano Rivera has to be in the discussion as well...if we're talking pitchers as well

BTW, Babe Ruth's numbers in the 28 World Series
AVG - .625
OBP - .647
SLG - 1.375
OPS - 2.022

yea he's a dominant closer, but to the best postseason player of all time by getting three outs a game. (at most 6) i don't think so.

Well like I said, stats are inflated due to time periods. Now there is a 5-Man starting rotation when a team used to only carry maybe a few more than 5 pitchers on the whole staff. Also people are more likely to see a closer as a better pitcher than a starter in the playoffs due to the clutch/pressure factor. FWIW Rivera is astounding.

Wow. This thread was started as a joke. But some in-depth, intellegent conversation has opened up. Keep it going.

Another big factor is the Rings. If you don't have them, you fall in the category with nobodies. This is why Rodriguez is coming up and everyone is surprised with his stats. People forget about why he left Seattle in the first place.

Thanks for clarifying. He has arguably been a flop in the post season with the Yankees until this year. I for one, am glad to see him finally get it done in October

Not a chance. A-rod is far from the top of the list for "best postseason players of all time." He has only been with the Yanks since '04, and the Yanks have failed to win a Championship in this decade. In this time, the best postseason players are among the following: Curt Shilling, Mariano Rivera, Manny Ramirez.
As far as all-time goes, no one compares to the legends. Give it time, bandwagon Yankees fans. They may be up this year, but there's no ring on their fingers yet.
