Coming from LA....take I-85 through the heart of Atlanta and stay on I-85 towards South Carolina outside the perimeter (I-285), then take Hwy 316 straight into Athens....stay off Hwy 78 and other back roads....2 lane speed traps.

Everyone takes 316 off I-85 to get to Athens, simplest, fastest route.

I would take the 285 around atlanta. you never know when you might hit traffic in atlanta and could back quick.
