Running to the short side of the field ?

Is there any logic to running the option or Shepard to the short side so often?

i think the thinking is that most defenses don't expect that. i think that thinking is wrong.

Maybe we were thinking we could "trick" the defense b/c no team in their right mind would run their speed backs repeatedly to the short side.

Very clever grasshopper. Jedi mind trick didn't work out.

the only reason I can come up with is that. By going to the short side they know the defense will be stacked to the wide side. If they can hit the corner with the speed of the skill players on hand it will be a huge play.

It works even better for option plays when LSU pitches it to the tailback, too.
