in a lot of games.

I'm watching the LSU-Kentucky game in 2002 and Kentucky is just moving up and down the field on us. Jay Lorenzen just completes a 44 yard bomb to tie the game with a little over 2 minutes to go at 27-27. Then, LSU goes 3 and out and Kentucky gets in FG position with a pass interference call against Jack Hunt and an 8 yard run up the middle.

Of course, we win with the Bluegrass Miracle, but this was Saban's 3rd year and his defense was soft.

Why do we glamourize the Saban years so much?

I'm sure the Sabanites have a reasonable excuse, they should be along shortly...

The improvement over Dinardo, the BCS NCG and the recruiting.

Ouside of one year, his product was not spectacular.

But the man brought LSU to prominance after a long, dark period. Probably why.

For the first three years, 2000 through 2002, the defense under Saban was pretty mediocre. In 2003 and 2004, it got better, though. Still, even in 2004, there were some shocking exceptions, notably Georgia and Iowa.

I'm not a "Sabanite" and he is now the enemy. Nevertheless, he is responsible for where we are now. If nothing else, he can coach defense. To deny it is foolish. His flaws are that he is an egomaniac that cant stay anywhere more than 5 yrs. I hope we can keep him out of the SEC championship another2-3 yrs and he'll leave...

Okay, game just ended on Sports South. Saban was not happy coming off the field. Maybe that's why we liked him? He was surly and gave us confidence that he would fix things. Of course, we proceeded to get blown out by Alabama like 31-0 and get beat by Arkansas as Matt Jones goes 80 yards in under a minute to knock us out of a SECOND West Championship.

If Miles were to do that, he'd be crucified.

Here's the difference: Expectations are higher now and the Saban years have been romanticized by those remember 2003 and think that his whole 5 years were like that.

I still remember Oregon St. In 2004. We should have lost that game if not for Alex Serna. How has our start this year been worse than 2004, Saban's 5th year?

The fact is, your logic is sound....and yet so many will inexplicably disagree.

Don't worry. He redeems himself later.

Years from now people will think that Hunt scored the TD and will call him LSU's greatest 2-way player of the 21st century.

Funny.

Why do people insist that Coach Miles has not done anything. Let me suggest that Saban was responsible for where we were at the end of 2004. Miles bears more responsibility for where the program is now than anyone, Saban included. That has been true for the last 3+ years.
