of course they have made medical advances, but we're still VERY susceptible to getting very sick from this virus because our bodies aren't used to it.

And FWIW, this is something I just found out:

They are not recording active transmission as of now so it isn't all bad...but the main thing separating us from 1918 from modern medicine as far as viruses go are antivirals.

Of the 4 flu antivirals, swine flu is resistant to 2 of them, resistance to a third (Tamiflu) is building, leaving only one drug in the doctor's arsenal.
