post date the check for two weeks after tix are to be mailed .. then, when you are given the tix, call the ticket office or go by to make sure they are legitimate tix ... if the check clears anytime before that .. this is on the bank and not you .. so, trust me, they won't cash it at all ..
This is all great advice to protect the buyer, but what about the seller. No one wants to mail the tickets and then the check bounce or something else...so it's allways going to be a tricky situation if you can't meet in person.

The main thing that always concerns me when buying tickets is that even if they are legit, the seller (providing they are the actual season ticket holder) can have new tickets reprinted by LSU at any time, up until the day of the game in fact!
I always ask for the account number and call the ticket office. They can't tell you much, but I simply ask if the account is 1) legitimate, 2) is in good standing, & 3) doesn't have any reported stolen tickets. They answer those questions but always caution that the ticket holder can have their tickets reprinted, to purchase through their website (Marketplace), etc etc.
Lastly, I always meet in person but lately I pair that with having the seller invoice me via PayPal with detailed ticket info for item description, cost, quantity, etc ahead of time. Then meet where we both have access to computer, make electronic payment, and I get tickets.
There is something uncomfortable with a stranger knowing you are showing up at a place with hundreds of dollars.
