LSU License Plates: Update and How to Get Yours

* License Plates
Georgia LSU License Plate
As of July 22, 438 Georgia resident Tiger fans have now prepaid to reserve their LSU license plate. The numbers are rising, but we need 1,000 prepaid orders to start production so PLEASE DO NOT WAIT TO APPLY!.
Last June, Georgia Department of Revenue Commissioner Bart L. Graham has approved the LSU Atlanta Alumni Chapter's request for special interest or commemorative license plates in the state of Georgia. We have until April 24, 2010 to collect 1,000 pre-paid applications for the plates. Applicants do not need to be an LSU alum. If we reach 1,000 applications, the state will begin production, and LSU can join Auburn, Florida and Clemson as out-of-state schools with Georgia plates.
All money collected resides in an escrow account so you will either get a new plate or your money refunded. We need EVERYONE to help spread the word to LSU fans all over the state to reach our goal.
HOW TO APPLY:
1. Print and complete an Application (click here to download)
2. Write a Check to: Louisiana State University Atlanta Alumni Chapter
3. Mail the Application along with a $25.00 fee to: Sarah Clayton, LSU Atlanta, 2221-D Peachtree Rd NW, # 344, Atlanta, GA 30309.
Here's all the details: Each applicant for the LSU Alumni license plate must submit a Special Interest License Plate application and a $25 manufacturing fee to the Chapter between now and the end of our 2 year period of approval on April 24, 2010. The funds shall be collected by the Chapter and held in a special non-interest bearing account until 1,000 applications have been received. After we receive 1,000 applications for the LSU Alumni license plate, the Chapter shall submit one check to cover all manufacturing fees along with the 1,000 applications for the LSU plate to the Georgia Department of Revenue Motor Vehicle Division. And, in the unlikely event the Chapter does not reach 1,000 paid applications within the 2 year period of approval, the plate will not be manufactured and the Chapter will return all fees collected to our applicants. Note: License plate numbers will be distributed on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. The first 100 plates (numbers 001 – 100) require an additional charge of $25 (for a total of $50 per plate). If you have any questions, please e-mail our committee chairwoman, Michele Heiger at: mecatl@comcast.net. The chapter would like to thank Michele for a dedicated 18 months of effort to gain approval from the Georgia Department of Revenue to accept applications for the plates. Please also help us spread the word about this opportunity for LSU license plates in Georgia. The faster we receive 1,000 applications, the sooner you can have an LSU plate on your car.

I will request for one of these in a months time. I will move to Georgia this month, and want to wait till I have a permanent address and a GA license.
The $25 fee, is that a one time fee or will there be any recurring yearly fee?

I just ordered mine, according to the Atlanta Alumni Chapter, they have about 450 applications, almost 1/2 the required number. I also sent an email to the local Macon paper and asked them to print an article, not sure this is well publicized and we need to get the word out. There are thousands of LSU fans in GA!

I live up in Rome and we have a good crew here as well. I will spread the word around here.

it has to be a Toonces image on the license plate, huh? Why not the fierce Tiger logo that is on the football helmet (and I believe is on Louisiana LSU license plates, yes?)

The "new" LSU plates in Louisiana now have the toonces face too.

I'm very shocked that we haven't had a better response to this. I sent mine in as soon as I heard about it. I would have to say this doesn't look good. I think we need 1,000 by April of next year. This has been going on for 18 months or so and we've only gotten to almost halfway.
If you're an LSU fan in Georgia, why aren't you signing up for this?

Speaking with a friend who is a UT Vol alumnus, he indicated the ATL chapter of the UT alumni association had to step in and pay for over a 300 plate short fall for them to reach 1,000. I would be surprised if there are more LSU alumni/fans in GA than UT. If a gap remains at the deadline it still would be a lot cheaper for marketing purposes if the short fall could be covered. Compared to the costs of AU and UT billboards around ATL it would be a drop in the bucket.

I'd fork over some extra money to get this rolling if that's what it takes!

Might have to do with the tag design. A LOT of LSU fans probably dont want to be driving around with Toonces on their car. I wouldn't. I'd just put an LSU sticker on or an LSU window flag. Window flags are a lot more visible anyway.....

I spoke to a few LSU fans here in Warner Robins and the biggest response was... "I just never got around to it." Of course my response is "Well it's time to get er did Dude!!" I know of at lease three people who said they will submit their application. We need to get the word out with emphasis on making it happen!
