86, 87, & 90 were all better.

Explain to me what happened here, I was only a baby then. 1998 I remember we were one win away from coasting to the finals. We beat eventual champion USC in the opener but fell apart.

86 -- LSU has all the talent, but no experience
87 -- one of LSU's best teams ever, but snakebit in the CWS (thread on the 87 CWS here)
90 -- great team that swept UGA to win the SEC, but UGA eventually won the CWS

The pitchers LSU had from '87 to '93 were just incredible. Plenty of guys with long MLB careers.

Also, here are the teams with the best winning pcts., courtesy of SPEEDY ( LINK):

1997 57-13 0.814 Skip Bertman
1986 55-14 0.797 Skip Bertman
1996 52-15 0.776 Skip Bertman
2009 56-17 0.767 Paul Mainieri
1989 55-17 0.764 Skip Bertman
1992 50-16 0.758 Skip Bertman
2000 52-17 0.7536 Skip Bertman
1993 53-17-1 0.7535 Skip Bertman
1991 55-18 0.753 Skip Bertman

It's funny how forgotten the 1992 team is.
