Every once in a while he comes down to Sugar Land to visit his kid (he bough the ex a house in Sweetwater). he eats at Cane's every time. A friend of mine texted me that he was at Cane's. I knew just what to do.

He signed 33 on the gold part (LSU number) and 32 on the newspaper article (Magic number). Super nice guy. He was impressed with it. "I haven't seen one of these in forever, man."

Canes isn't that good, FWIW.

... maybe if the chicken was crispier?
Either way, good drunk food.

It tastes the same up here in Shreveport. I've always thought that burnt taste must be the type of oil they use or the temp they cook the chicken at. It taste like chit no matter where you get it. Love everything about the place, except the chicken. Maybe that's why I quit going.

Alone, the tenders are mediocre at best. But as soon as you start dunking shite in the sauce, everything tastes awesome.

For me anyway.

Chicken is okay, used to be much better. The sauce is still better than anything from any other restaurant, and the Texas Toast just makes it. The fries are not terrible. There are a few chicken places similar to Canes up here in the 'ville, but nothing all around as good as Canes.

You can thank Guthrie's in Alabama. Its nothing really secret, many restaurants use it -- or a version of it with just quantities of the ingredients varied.

the tenders used to be a LOT bigger and tasted a lot better. you also used to get one more tender in the box, now its more expensive with less chicken.

true but that can drastically change the taste. I have fooled around with the recipe many times. My friend worked at Cane's before only managers knew the recipe and we would make batches of it all the time.

Well I was referring to Canes-esq restaurants. Don't know why I didn't specify.

have you had the Guthrie's version, the Otter's version, the McDougals version, or the Zaxbys version? Its all about the same, and change really isn't as drastic as you would think.

I've tried to recreate it myself, and I can't come close. But of course I can't replicate any of the other said restaurant's versions either.
