I hear lots of pundits talking about Ole Miss and Alabama being contenders. Yes, LSU has a tougher schedule than both, but both Bama and Ole Miss lost their starting left tackles and other lineman on the offensive side. Bama lost the leader of its defense in Johnson. Ole Miss, while talented lots their best playmaker on defense in Jerry.

These are big hits that both schools have to fill. I know LSU lost Big Herm and Hemls, but both can be replaced more easily than an LT. Center will be key.

While LSU lost some depth on the OL, their most active DE will be back in Alem who will get to be a full time starter. We get Alexander back + Woods and Nevis.

I think LSU is in the best position in the trenches. Only thing that Ole Miss has over LSU is experience at QB, but LSU has better athletes all over the field. Bama was a brand new QB.

It will be an interesting season, but LSU is in the best position in my opinion.

To me, the MVP of almost any successful football team is the LT. You can build your whole offense around a superior left tackle. Protecting that QB's blind side is an absolute must.

Other than schedule. Ole Miss' schedule, (take a look at it) is by far the easiest in the west and possibly the entire league.

Yeah LSU is probably the better team but schedule is very important. Even if LSU beats Ole Miss in Oxford, which will be tough, I still think unless Ole Miss has an absolute meltdown, they will still the favorites out of the west.

Not a glamorous enough position. People tend to focus on the guy w/ the ball in his hands. They don't realize that ballgames are won in the trenches (yeah, it's a cliche', but very true).

The next time that both Ole Miss AND Houston Nutt live up to expectations and being picked as a champ will be the first time.
