False.
First of all, if anything, ESPN is biased toward the SEC in college football. By the way, which is the winningest college football team in recent years? In basketball, they only started talking about the Celtics last year when they were (gasp!!!) damned good. The Lakers/Celtics final was a boon to all of the media, because it was two top teams. The Sox and the Yankees have been battling for the top seed in the AL for years now, and yes, all of these teams have appeal to the most viewers (which is a factor), but ESPN does NOT show favoritism to them.
What's funny is all of the people who have an inferiority complex on this board...

to me their biased toward certain teams because of their tradition, hoopla, you know fanfare, star power, whatever, and those teams represent that, they love the SEC as a whole like you said, but because it is the premeir football conference in the land, if it wasn't they wouldn't be all over the SEC like they are, and if you notice out of all the SEC schools who do they hype the most? I'll tell you- Fla, I wonder why, LSU has won as many NC's as them.
but I forgot ESPN hates LSU.

Only for the past year, and it might have just a tiny bit to do with a certain enormous contract signed by a certain conference and a certain tv station. "This USC team is the greatest college football team ever assembled"...blah, blah, blah. UT and LSU disagree.

So did the media love for boston start after they had accumulated all those wins? Even while in last place the Celts get play...BECAUSE ITS BOSTON AND ESPN IS IN NEW ENGLAND! Makes perfect business sense to me. Not even addressing the LAkers. Cowboys and Lakers are always the favorite soap opera. When was their last title again?

I'll give you the Sox. Great team and consistency. The Yankees have not been relevant this century have they? Its all about the hype and drama.

If the large majority of airtime =/= favoritism, then you are abolutely right.

Again, its a private business that can prop up whoever they want. I don't care who the rat shows bias for, I'm just not naive enought to believe it doesn't exist.

Ok, I gotta call bullshite on that one. I've come to except ESPN's bias. They are a private company that can air whatever they want, but their darling teams are NOT decided on winning.
USC
Lakers
Celtics
Red Sox
Yankees
They have always been the favorite teams, and there have been a total of 4 titles from the darlings over the past 5+ years. The bias is based on potential viewers, not championship prowess.
1994. Who were the "darling" teams?
Bulls - defending champs.
Knicks - arguably best in the East.
Magic - best in the East.
The Celtics were waving bye-bye to the Boston Garden and they got hardly any games on tv that year because they sucked. ESPN didn't wipe their asses.
USC didn't become a darling until they won the 2003 Orange Bowl. The Sox/Yanks rivalry wasn't shoved down our throats until the Sox started contending for a title this decade.
ESPN covers winners, no matter who they are.

I'm unbiased, and it appeared to me that the Lakers lost the game for themselves as opposed to just straight getting beat. I would not be surprised to see the Lakers rattle off four wins in a row, but it'd be kind of cool to see Houston do the same to them, L.A. needs to be taken down a notch.

The Rockets WILL win this series!!!!! I have been saying in 6 since the matchup came about!!! I also said that Artest would be the KEY as shown last night!!!!

Didn't watch the NBA back then, except when MJ was on. So I can't really speak on it.

I thought their BCS title was 2004 orange bowl. 2003 was rose bowl and mythical national title, right? I may be mixed up. Anyway, thats still only one title. Does that warrant them more airtime then the two teams with 2 titles?

I may consent on that, except that its so overkill I feel like I've been watching sox/yanks stories, games, pregame, postgame, warmups, and personal lives for my entire adult life. ESPN is king at taking a good story, then dissecting and repeating it in so many ways that eventually people resent seeing it on.

Utah get much coverage? Stanley Cup winner? Who won MLS last year? Follow the money xiv. Its a little about winning, and a lot about funding.
Leaving this damn hospital. Catch up on the response later!

Houston played a good game but the Lakers were 2 of 18 for threes. Not many were contested threes either. LA typically is good from deep and had they even shot 30% from 3 last night you are looking at 9 more points. Their shot at the three point line lost it for them more than anything. Houston played great but LA player bad. If the threes were contested I would give Houston more credit. LA missed wide open threes. Fisher 0-4, Ariza 0-4, Vujacic 0-2, Farmar 1-1 and Kobe 1-7 from deep.

Not in 1994.
And ESPN loved the Spurs, right?

quote:The 2002 USC team went 10-2 in the regular season and beat Iowa in the 2003 Orange Bowl, cracking the top ten for the first time in a LONG time. That's when ESPN took note. USC has been an elite team ever since, and they get a lot of airtime. Funny how that works out.
