What did you think of this one?
I couldn't believe how effective it was at portraying Nixon as a sympathetic figure.
Are we left to believe that he was a full blown alcoholic?
And I refuse to do a spoiler alert for a movie about actual historic events.

Good acting.
I don't think the movie gave that impression at all.

I thought it was very good. One of my favorites of 2008. I thought Langella was tremendous as Nixon.

Well, it showed Nixon forgetting he even made the phone call so he was totally blasted.

Then how do you explain the late night phone call to Frost that Nixon didn't remember? He admitted during the call that he had been drinking. And as they were talking, the camera kept showing the bar in his room.
I assumed it was a black out, and that's Nixon did not rememebr making the call.

Too bad what was portrayed in the film never happened IRL.
Amazing that Nixon is still being bashed (this film and WATCHMEN). Do most Americans even know who he was?
Lucky if they can name the current VP or last 3 presidents.

What specifically are you referring to? Did you actually see the movie?

Bashed? That's not the position that the film takes at all.

This didn't actually happen in real life. That being said I'm sure it could have happened.

Nixon never made a call like that.
The only way they could even pull off a fabricated scene of that nature was to present Nixon inebriated. And even if it had happened, I wouldn't call someone getting drunk once in a while an alcoholic. It's not as though he was sneaking off of the set to take a shot of schnapps.

+1. I actually thought the guy playing Frost was better than the guy playing Nixon.

I'll disagree with that.
I've seen Langella in a variety roles, and I think he did a great acting job as opposed to simply doing a Nixon impression.
